The film is loosely based on the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. It was directed by Girish Karnad, and produced by B. Venkatesh Babu, Gopi Krishna, Mukesh Chhabra, and Girish Karnad. The animated version of the Ramayana was created by the Bengaluru-based film production company, Maya Digital Media, and is based on the Hindi version of the epic. The film is produced in the Sanskrit language. It was released on 4 September 2010.
Plot
The film follows the 3 brothers, Laxmana, Bharata, and Shatrughana, who are travelling to fulfill their last wish of seeing Sita as their wife. When the trio arrive at the Ashoka Parvat mountain, they meet and help the Nagas (Snake warriors) belonging to the Naga Kingdom, who are led by Narada. It is revealed that the Nagas are descendants of Ashoka's army of monkey warriors. The Nagas are charged with protecting the Ashoka Parvat.
After some time, Laxmana's childhood friend Bharata goes missing. Narada explains to the trio that he is in a human form as he has been cursed by a demoness. His human form cannot enter the human world, so he took the form of the king of the demons in exchange for his life. The trio travel to a certain village where they save a girl named Radha from a cruel king and the queen, who is her aunt. After protecting Radha, Laxmana is renamed as Laxman, Bharata becomes Vasudeva, and Shatrughan becomes Vasudev. The trio meet Ram, who was the leader of the Naga army, and he tells them that his wife Sita is missing. They set out to find her. The journey leads them to many other characters who are accompanied by their childhood friends. They find out that Sita's father, Rama, is a king who took away the princess of Mithila.
While crossing the ocean, they reach the nearby town of Mithila, where they hear about the latest news about Sita. Rama is now emperor of Mithila and is known for being a fearsome king. They meet a tribe of monkeys, who tell them that they met Sita and revealed that Rama was her father. Rama was a priest who learned about Sita's lineage.
